Makos Swim Team


Why join the Makos?
To get a sense of accomplishment in personal growth and swimming ability. The coaches will use the most up-to-date drills so swimmers will develop their competitive swimming strokes freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, and butterfly. Practices are targeted to your child’s ability and experience level. Each swimmer will get individual attention to develop their endurance and speed. We highly encourage swimming as an addition to other sports (football, baseball, soccer). This program emphasizes team commitment, self-discipline, and working toward high standards in and out of the pool. The team vision is to have fun and encourage each swimmer to achieve the next level in their swimming ability. We also strive to develop strong personal relationships between each swimmer by promoting the YMCA’s core values of caring honesty respect and responsibility.

Prerequisites
Child must obtain permission from the coaching staff by way of assessment. Swimmers must show that they are able to perform the following skills and distance without stopping:
50 yds freestyle with rotary breathing
50 yds backstroke
50 yds breaststroke
50 yds butterfly kick
Standing dive from deck
*Swimmers should complete the Starfish or Fish swim lesson levels to participate

What to Bring to Practice

Swimsuit, towel, 2 pairs goggles, swim cap, and water or sports drink in plastic bottle.

Practices

10 and under: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursdays from 4:30-5:30pm
11 and up: Monday, Wednesday and Thurday from 5:30 to 7:00pm
9 and up Tuesday from 4:30-6:00pm
